Psalmist Bettye Ransom Nelson
Dr. Bettye Ransom Nelson, the matchless dynamic songbird of Houston, Texas, always lifts up her voice like a trumpet in Zion, proclaiming God’s deliverance to the captives, and His mercy to those that are lost through the melodious songs of praise. She is the daughter of the Late Mr. Chester S. and Mabel Ransom of Houston, Texas.
She is the beautiful wife of Bishop Alva Chester Nelson, Senior Advisor of Jericho City COGIC formerly known as Nelson Memorial Pentecostal Church of God in Christ located in the Kashmere Garden Vicinity of Houston, Texas. Under the leadership of her son, Pastor Brian R. Nelson, Sr. she serves as the Pastor of Women’s Ministries as well as the Senior Advisor to the Worship & Arts Ministry. She is the mother of four talented children Alvaneeta, Brian, Mia, and Marquise and two adopted daughters Joann and Torie, and the stars that light up her midnight sky (grandchildren) Aarron Chester Christopher, Brian Randolph II, Brooke Rian’ , Edyin Ky’l , Christopher Jerome, Milah Bri’el, and the newst addition Blake Ransom.
Dr. Nelson has traveled extensively throughout the United States, and has been afforded the opportunity to travel to London, England; Germany, Czechoslovakia, Switzerland, France, and Japan, and South Africa evangelizing and lifting up the name of Jesus. She often tells about how God stayed the hand of death in November 1990 when she and her family were traveling to the Holy Convocation of the Churches of God in Christ. However, that near fatal confrontation has not impeded Dr. Nelson from giving God the praises He is due.
God continues to give Dr. Nelson a zest for young people as she is currently been afforded the opportunity to work with young ladies from grades 5-8 at the E O Smith Education Center in establishing “Sisters in the Hood Performance Company” designed to develop and mentor the multiplicity of gifts in the community. For more than 35 years Dr. Nelson has been an intricate part of the Church of God in Christ Music Department, serving as one of the International Vice Presidents until 2004, when she was appointed by General Supervisor Willie Mae Rivers as President of the Women’s International Convention Choir.
She has received countless awards to her credit and has been the featured guest of:
